Another May, another Cellarstock! Seven years ago, Carol Hayes, landlady of Cellars Bar, Teignmouth, created and managed a wonderful festival to open the summer season at the bar. All the Hayes family knew Helen, and Cellarstock is a wonderful tribute to their friendship. Carol persuaded 16 local musicians and bands to perform over two weekend days. The bands agreed not to charge a fee to keep Cellarstock a free-to-enter event and so that those attending could donate more freely to the charity. The formula works! This year, through the sale of wrist bands, raffle tickets and profits from the barbeque, over £1700 was raised for THF.
Cellarstock gives hundreds of people a really special weekend each year. Friends re-meet, both new and established musicians have a chance to shine, and Teignmouth displays its generous heart in helping to raise much needed funds for the charity.
Local businesses and individuals contribute great prizes for the raffle, including this year the stand-out prize of £150 from Luke Hayes’ company, Teign Renewables. We wish to thank ALL those supportive donors, technicians and bucket shakers. The sun shone – most of the time! – and the weekend ended with Firekind’s ever-popular final set.
Returning after the event, Trustees received this message from a well-wisher:
“Just a message to say thank you for the fantastic event that is Cellarstock. The Helen Foundation does such amazing work to support the Arts and raise its profile, and for doing that you’re making so,so many people happy and to feel like they CAN pursue their dream. I’m a painter so this charity has my full backing- iIwould donate a lot more if I could. Many thanks, and all the best for what will be the brightest future for the Helen Foundation.”
