Doddiscombsleigh Primary School – Workshop & Doddi Art Show

November 9, 2019

Doddiscombsleigh (Doddi as it’s affectionately known) is an exceptional primary school. One of Devon’s smallest, with fewer than 40 pupils, it maintains high standards and a very supportive learning atmosphere, as consistently judged by Ofsted.  One of its remarkable features is the emphasis it has always placed on the importance of the arts in the development of young people. Each year, Doddi takes advantage of the Helen Foundation offer to run high quality arts-based workshops run by professional artists.

This term, Doddi invited in Cara Roxanne. Cara is listed on the daisi register and THF works closely with this charity that helps schools provide the ideal artist for their workshop requirements, whether it’s drama, dance, art or music.

In this recent Doddi workshop, Cara worked with pupils on creating popup books that used a variety of materials and engaged youngsters’ imaginations in a wonderful day of artistic creation. 25 children took part.  The concentration was immense; the cutting, gluing, decorative skills truly awesome.

Doddi, you can be so proud of all those youngsters, and hopefully, they’re proud too!

thf_doddi1One other unique aspect of Doddi is that every two years the school, through its parents and supporters, mounts one of Devon’s finest art shows, the Doddiscombsleigh Art Show. Attracting artists from across the South West, the three days of the show are highly popular. Profits from the sale of art works all go to Doddi School to support its work with the children. The children themselves always exhibit in the show, and this year their pop-up books had pride of place in the entrance foyer, where a rota of pupils helped staff the welcome desk.

Really inspirational, Doddi!
