Talented local harpist, Grace, attended a harp course this summer supported by a THF bursary and wrote to Trustees to thank THF for supporting her.
“I wanted to say a really massive thank you for giving me the opportunity to go to Ruth Faber’s Teenage Harp course the other week-it was an incredible 5 days!
I was indeed taught by Eleanor Turner for around 5 hours per day and with her I learnt a huge amount which vastly improved my pieces, technique and ability.
In addition to this, Eleanor gave me the confidence I needed to continue playing my “new” (although very old) harp. As you may know, I recently bought an antique harp as I could no longer afford my previous concert harp. The Erard harp I now own is wonderful, although very difficult to adapt to after playing modern concert harps. However, as Eleanor has also had experience with the modern-to-antique transition, she was able to teach me many tricks of the trade and has brought me right back up to standard!
The Course was also a fabulous opportunity to play as an ensemble with 17 other harpists-we were given 3 workshops as an ensemble; “Orchestra”-in which we learnt various harp cadenzas, “Jazz Harp”-in which we built up our own piece based upon a Jazz key to be played in our concert, and “Pop Harp”-where we all arranged “Get Lucky” By Daft Punk and “Halo” by Beyoncé, both of which we also performed in the final concert.
Once again thank you so very much for enabling me to go to this wonderful course which was both extremely beneficial and fun! It really has improved my standard of playing and my confidence as well as vastly increasing my repertoire.”
