Students at Teigmouth Community School worked throughout the summer and early autumn terms to produce a magnificent textile banner celebrating what they love about Teignmouth, using a variety of felting techniques.
Led by artist Caroline Davies and encouraged by teacher Stacey Hutchings, the youngsters researched and sketched their favourite aspects of the town and translated their ideas into witty, felted cartoons and sketches and large-scale ‘postcards’ that were then securely bonded onto a felt-lettered big banner, now gracing the large wall at the foot of the main school staircase.
The banner was unveiled at a special ceremony led by TCS Principal Dr Tony Gray, following a delicious celebration tea served to the students, their teachers and parents/carers.
Roger Kirk says:
“This was a terrrific project that broke new ground for THF workshops, in centring on felting as the artistic medium.
What a brilliant result! Well done to everyone involved.
You cannot help but smile when you see the images!”
