Saturday 12 July – 365: a Year in the Life of the Young People of Newton Abbot

thf_365One of the most ambitious projects ever funded by The Helen Foundation, with an investment of over £10,000, comes to fruition on the 12th July at Seale Hayne College, Newton Abbot.

365 – a Year in the Life of the Young People of Newton Abbot, has involved 10 schools and hundreds of children. Workshops in a range of media like sculpture, print-making, animation and documentary film have combined to create a portrait of how young people in Newton Abbot see the world today. It’s been an amazing year, with exciting ideas, new skills learning, inter-school and inter-generational work and a driving sense of purpose from young people, artists and teachers alike.

This project was funded by The Helen Foundation and involved the following schools:

Denbury Primary School
Haytor View Community Primary School
Bradley Barton Primary School
Kingskerswell Primary School
Decoy Primary School
Highweek Primary School
Canada Hill Primary School
Bearnes Primary School
Coombeshead Academy

10.00 am – 5.00 pm – Exhibition of printmaking, animation, sculpture, documentary films and more!
10.00 am – 12.00 pm – Art Workshops
12.00pm – Official opening by Roger Kirk, Trustee of The Helen Foundation
12.15 – 5.00 pm – School performances including Soul Band, Bollywood Dance, Zumbalonic Crew and many more

There will also be bands performing during the day and evening as part of the ‘Our Big Gig’ Festival and refreshments are available all day.

Come along on 12th July to Seale Hayne College and see for yourself. It’s free!  With dancing and music, bands and refreshments, it will a day to celebrate the brilliant artistic talents of the area’s young people.
