Ben Gardner, from Bishopsteignton, is a very talented musician. Aged 14, he has already achieved Grade 8 piano and is currently working towards his Grade 8 viola. He attends Saturday masterclasses at The Royal Academy of Music where his talents are warmly encouraged. He successfully applied to The Helen Foundation for a bursary to help purchase a new viola, as his previous one was not of sufficient quality to able to progress to the very highest levels of playing to which he aspires. Ben is a truly dedicated musician. His family are hugely supportive of his efforts and his 16 year old sister Gemma is also a talented violinist.
Having received the support of the Foundation, Ben and his family decided to hold a concert in St John’s Church, Bishopsteignton to help raise funds for the Foundation and to make a donation to the church. On Saturday 7th September, Ben and Gemma gave a splendid recital in the church to a highly appreciative audience. With assured and fluent playing, the two Garner children offered a wide repertoire from Bach to Irish jigs to the delight of the audience. At the interval, the family served tea and cakes – homemade by family and friends – and no one there could think of a better way to spend an afternoon of heavy downpours! The concert raised £200 for the Foundation.
