Jess Levinson was awarded a Helen Foundation bursary in the summer of 2009 to enable her to attend Califonia’s most prestigious pre-college arts summer school, Idyllwild. The experience was so powerful it changed her life and she was determined to go to college and become an actor. While at Arts University Bournemouth, where she obtained a First Class degree, Jess helped found a theatre company called Untold Theatre of which she is a company director.
The company performed at the Edinburgh Fringe this summer with a new play Beyond Expectations, co-written by Martin Levinson and Avril Silk, attracting good reviews. The company then toured the play on a nationwide tour that concluded in Exeter last month.
In Dickens’ classic coming-of-age novel Great Expectations, we share in Pip’s adventures. Beyond Expectations revisits the novel, this time placing Estella in the center of the action, following her journey from childhood to adulthood.
Jess played Estella and the play was dedicated to Helen Kirk in tribute to the work that the charity does in encouraging young people in their aspirations in the arts.
