Donation from Rydon School

Pupils at Abbotskerswell School have generously supported THF by donating £185 from the Abbotskerswell Christmas 2015 productions. Trustees are very grateful for their support!
We welcome any support from schools.

All for Love – Words for Voices

Dawlish Mayor, Howard Almond, hosted a brilliant evening at the Manor on Friday 12th February.

Words for Voices is a group of four trained actors, with accompanying musicians, who perform across Devon in support of a wide range of charitable causes. Their shows are unique. Their eclectic mixtures of poems, dialogues, dramatised readings and songs are chosen to suit to the seasons of the year. From laugh-out-loud comedy to searing pathos, they have audiences completely in their hands.

This special Valentine’s performance, All for Love, had everything from Shakespeare to Wind in the Willows, via Wendy Cope and Victoria Woods. A reading from a 1950s women’s magazine brought howls of laughter from the audience who departed the event with broad smiles of delight on their faces.

Roger Kirk said: “This was a superb evening of high-class entertainment! We are very grateful to Howard and the performers for their work on behalf of the charity.

Words for Voices are a truly remarkable group and we are proud to announce that they plan to perform a special Christmas show in the Music Room at Powderham Castle on 14th December 2016 to benefit the Foundation.

2016 is the celebratory 10th anniversary of the charity and this gala evening will be the crowning event of the year.”

The Veronica Awdry Charitable Trust

Trustees of The Helen Foundation received a generous £1500 donation from The Veronica Awdry Charitable Trust recently. This Trust, founded in 2005, provides grants to other charitable organisations and individuals for charitable purposes.

Whilst the Trust can benefit any charitable purpose in practice the VACT’s main areas of interest are:-

  • broadening educational experiences (with priority given to adventurous and musical activities by those resident within a 25 mile radius of Newton Abbot in Devon.)
  • Heritage railway projects

It also provides grants to charitable organisations that fall outside these areas of interest. The donation will help ensure that THF’s bursary programme to young people in Teignbridge can continue.
