If you love original, artisan cheese, look no further than The Cheese Shed, one of the South West’s glories! A noted champion of regional food, winning Best Independent Retailer in the 2011 Observer Food Monthly Awards, The Cheese Shed started in 2006, with the aim of making Westcountry cheese available to people all over the country. Since then, the business and its reputation has grown significantly and owners play a key part in the promotion of the Bovey Tracey Nourish Festival. Nourish is a new festival based around food, craft and music, created by the Contemporary Craft Festival, The Cheese Shed and Devon Guild of Craftsmen.
Part of the brief of Nourish is to promote music making and appreciation by young people in Bovey Tracey, and The Helen Foundation supported the first music workshop for young people in 2014 and will again for 2015.
Ian Wellens of The Cheese Shed wrote recently to THF with a terrific supportive offer from the business. Ian writes:
“There’s an option in the on-line checkout process where customers can choose to add £1 to their order. And The Cheese Shed agrees to match that. At some point – not sure when – we’ll tot up what’s been given, add an equal amount and pass it on to you. We haven’t decided how long this will run (before we change to a new charity) – we just thought we’d see how it went, and decide later.
The good news is we’ve had £31 given since this started (12 April), so about 31 customers – 18% of the total – have taken up the offer. And of course that’ll be £62 once topped up.
I’ve put a ‘giving’ page on the site with details, and have told our customers about the new idea in two of our recent email newsletters. There’s always a link to THF’s site so that people can find out more if interested. And in our checkout that’s the case as well (if you want to see how that looks, make as if to buy something and then look at the ‘basket’ page).”
THANK YOU, IAN AND TEAM, AT THE CHEESE SHED FOR YOUR BRILLIANT SUPPORT. WE WISH YOU SUCCESS WITH YOUR BUSINESS AND WITH THIS YEAR’S NOURISH FESTIVAL:
4-5th SEPTEMBER IN BOVEY TRACEY.
