Dancer, Florence Briot, led a wonderful Indian culture workshop at Cockwood School recently as part of the school’s focus on India this term. Using story-telling, rangoli folk art and Indian dance, Florence immersed the children in a wonderful day of cultural understanding. In the afternoon, she gave the children a chance to taste something special from India.
Florence served “pongal”, a sweetened rice and dal pudding called after the harvest festival of that name, and spiced with coconut and turmeric and with added cashew nuts and dried fruit. Delicious! The day ended with an impressive dance display for parents that included fascinating presentations of Indian animals like the tiger and the monkey. Terrific workshop!
