James Lake 3D Workshop

February 23, 2014

thf_jameslakeSupported by funding from the Foundation, Newton Abbot Learning Community is running a highly ambitious project called 365 – a Year in the Life of the Youth of Newton Abbot.

The eight schools involved have created a wide-ranging multi-arts project including journaling , sculpture, print-making, film-making and stop-frame animation.

James Lake is a brilliant artist and teacher. His medium is cardboard and he has the gift of inspiring young people to achieve remarkable things. Primary school pupils work with secondary school students in his workshops and they are currently focusing on large-scale heads and torsos. The project is on-going.  We recently met one of the teachers who came with her primary children from Haytor View Primary to the Newton Abbot College art studios to work with James assisted by NAC students and she could not stop enthusing about how exciting the whole project is proving to be.

Pictured is James with the inner scaffolding the children assemble before adding further layers and cardboard-created shapes from varying thicknesses of cardboard.  More soon!
