Kingskerswell School – Anyone for Sculpture?

June 14, 2015

THF WORKSHOPS  –  “I LOVE IT WHEN I GET MY HANDS DIRTY!”

thf_kingskerwell3_602x350Kingskerswell School ran a very special 4-day  residential experience for their Year 4 children at Colehayes Park.  A key part of their time they worked with artist Jo Tyler, making 3D animals that represented the classes at the school that are called by animal names – penguin, bear, giraffe etc.

Jo writes: “The children really enjoyed the activity and have rather limited chances to take part in the arts in school as part of their usual school programme.  Children learnt 3 D sculpture techniques: how to design and transform 2 D design into 3 D model; how to stencil and apply textured paint techniques; and the appropriate use of mixed media to enhance their sculpture.  The young people designed their own sculpture, within the limitations laid down. It would be nice to see what they could do if they could respond to a wider brief.”

One boy said during his time there:

“I don’t want to leave this place, I want to see my mum but wish she could come here. I’ve loved it here.”
