Many hands make artwork

April 25, 2014

thf_olpatrickSupported by a subsidy from the Helen Foundation, artist Monica Shanta Brown worked recently with children from Our Lady and St Patrick School, Teignmouth to create a banner that is now proudly displayed on a wall in the school.

THF Friend, Michelle Greenwood-Brown, visited the banner workshop and writes:

“The children had made drawings of their hands and drew patterns onto them. They then cut hand shapes out of red fabric and decorated them with various materials. The hands would be placed radiating out from a central ‘sun’ on the large material banner, each year group making one concentric ring of the finished design. Photos of the children’s friends or family would be placed in their hand shape’.

The classroom was a hive of activity and the tables were piled with very colourful fabrics. The children were really enjoying laying all the completed fabric hands onto the banner, to see how they would look once Monica had sewn them on.”

Well done everyone.  Terrific results!
