Powderham Live!

November 5, 2016

thf_powderham1Young musical talent stormed Powderham Castle in the very first Powderham Live! recently. The evening showcased nearly 30 talented young musicians from both Dawlish Community College and Teignmouth Community School.  The young people had been personally invited  by AJ Langer, the Countess of Devon, to perform in the James Wyatt Music Room, which was transformed for the occasion into a nghtclub-like venue with comfy sofas, big cushions on the floor, candle-light and a superb sound system. THF_powderham2The event was the inspiration of the Countess after Powderham Castle hosted Radio 1’s Big Weekend, which was awarded South Devon’s Tourism Event of the Year – a framed award – presented to AJ at the end of the evening by Leader of Teignbridge District Council, Jeremy Christophers.

But the evening belonged truly to the young musicians.  From jazz to rock, original piano compositions to songs from the shows, the variety and quality of the musical talent on show wowed the sell-out audience and brought them to their feet.  What a magical evening and the start of something special at the Castle.
