thf_rangoli1Following a highly successful THF-supported rangoli workshop at Rydon School, Kingsteignton, teacher Emily Hadley writes:
“As part of our annual art week at Rydon Primary school, the children in Year 5 were lucky enough to have a day of art from an expert in Indian Art thanks to the generous subsidy from The Helen Foundation.  Visiting artist Kate Green led the creation of our beautiful sun using nature’s gifts to us – carrots, cucumber, celery, cabbage, beans, lentils, peppers, leaves, twigs, shells, flowers and grass. It was an amazing experience and the end result was astonishing generating much interest from everyone who saw it.

“A Rangoli is a colourful design made on the floor near the entrance to a house to welcome guests. At Diwali, Hindus draw bright Rangoli patterns to encourage the goddess Lakshmi to enter their homes.
