Eight men from the Bishop John de Grandisson pub in Bishopsteignton took part in a fund-raising beard-growing campaign throughout December that ended with a grand shave-off on New Year’s Day.
Brainchild of Ian Potter, who was inspired by the international Movember moustache-growing for Prostate Cancer, Ian persuaded Andrew West, Barry Johnson, Colin Groom, Colin Pope, Daz Gunn, Richard Cowell and Mark Stanniford to join him in his charity beard-growing. Thanks to the generosity of their sponsors over the Christmas season, the event raised nearly £1400 for The Helen Foundation.
Fully supported by landlady Kerry Johnson (husband Barry was one of the bearded wonders), the shaving was carried out by Jayne Gallagher of The Hair Studio, Bishopsteignton at a hilarious New Year’s Day event.
“This is quite amazing!” said Helen Foundation Trustee Roger Kirk. “The whole thing has been done in such good spirit and with so much goodwill. We are stunned by the amount raised – quite terrific. Thank you so much everyone involved.”
