Junk Monkey is a young people’s theatre group in Teignmouth run by inspirational teacher, Flo Witcombe. The group recently performed The Resurrection Rock, a rock musical based on the Easter story and adapted by Flo for her group. Flo writes of her company:
“At Junk Monkey students learn the whole process of creating a piece of theatre and take complete ownership of the final production. Throughout each project, our aim is to encourage a sense of community, where we are all responsible for the end result, giving children the opportunity to be part of projects they have created themselves. We want to provide a fun and creative environment where all children shine, whether they like being in the limelight or prefer to be crafty and creative backstage.”
Two youngsters are being supported with a bursary to attend Junk Monkey by The Helen Foundation as both children love theatre and their families have struggled to pay for any extras. Two THF Trustees attended the show and saw both bursary holders give 100% effort in a very moving performance full of life and joy, greeted with prolonged and loud applause by the enthusiastic audience. Well done everyone who took part and well done Flo for leading such a vibrant theatre company!
