‘Tell Me a Tale’ and ‘Seeing Beyond’ are two exceptional small theatre companies that specialise in creating performances to socially challenged audiences.
With a grant from the Arts Council and support from The Helen Foundation, ‘Tell Me a Tale’ and ‘Seeing Beyond’ came recently to Oaklands Park School in Dawlish which caters for young people with profound and multiple disabilities. Their specially devised production, “Tunnels”, was quite remarkable. Using all the senses, they truly touched their audiences with a stream of creative ideas that involved, surprised and delighted their audience members.
The children were entranced! Theatre driven by deeply held values and beliefs, that respects its audiences and seeks to reach them, wherever they are, is a wonder to behold. We were so impressed. The children left the event with joy and wonder on their faces. Headteacher Bob Pugh says:
“How marvellous to have something that is so well focused on the needs of the more complex and profoundly learning disabled youngsters! I will acknowledge the support of The Helen Foundation on our website, the DLP website and in our press release, because as ever, your support is greatly appreciated.”
