Sonora received support from THF for her training at Elmhurst Ballet School and is currently developing her professional career. She is pictured above demonstrating a leap to her pupils, reflected in the studio mirror. Sonora writes:
“After dancing with Ballet West and touring Scotland I trained to become a Royal Academy of Dance ballet teacher spending my final accreditation year, then going on to teach, at a studio in Sarasota, Florida. I miss the sun… but am happy to be away from hurricanes!
I’m just starting my second year teaching at the Pollyanna Buckingham school in Totnes and Paignton and having loads of fun preparing for our annual show – this year it’s Alice in Wonderland which provides opportunity to create some outrageous choreography! On stage at the Festival Theatre on the Torquay prom on December 2nd.
My first year back in the UK gave me great satisfaction as my students did well in their exams and the festivals. The first student I put in for my first festival entry got first place which was very encouraging. I’m expanding my practice with yoga ball ballet stretch and am now training in acro. And I’m looking forward to working closer to home after recently doing a fun workshop with the great kids at Shaldon Primary School.
So, again, a big thank you and letting you all know that those seeds of creativity that THF nurture in the children of our community can really support the artist professionals of the future, as well as giving youngsters joy.”
Very best wishes for your future, Sonora! We wish you every success!
